The Eternal Elegance of PLUME DE CHANEL
by Alexandra I. Mas
In 1910, Gabrielle Chanel unveiled her first creation—a hat adorned with a single, striking white feather. The plume, a motif as ethereal as it is symbolic, would reappear in 1932 in “Bijoux de Diamants”, her first and only High Jewelry collection. Among the celestial forms, the feather stood as a testament to freedom, movement, and lightness.
Decades later, Patrice Leguéreau, visionary Director of the CHANEL Fine Jewelry Creation Studio, revived this delicate emblem. In 2010, he created the first High Jewelry collection completely dedicated to the feather, reimagining it as an intricate, rounded forms. In 2024, PLUME DE CHANEL once again breathes life into this poetic motif, through six airy, organic parures that seem to float, dance, and dissolve into light.

But this collection arrives with a deeper resonance, for it is also a farewell, one of the last masterpieces from a man whose imagination was as luminous as the diamonds he so elegantly set in motion. Like the passage of an angel, Patrice Leguéreau came, created, and was carried away, leaving behind a vision of ethereal beauty, suspended between dream and reality – a feather floating.

An Aerial Aesthetic
As if lifted by an unseen breeze, the PLUME DE CHANEL collection reinterprets the feather with effortless grace. The plume’s silhouette extends and unfurls, its delicate filaments rippling in undulations. It is weightless and elusive thanks to an innovative articulation technique and a refined harmony of gems. Designed to move freely with the body, the feather takes on new forms, cascading asymmetrically as an ear ornament, floating as a headpiece, delicately encircling the fingers in an open ring, or sweeping across the collarbone in a transformable necklace, where detachable brooches echo the iconic 1932 design.
True to its inspiration, PLUME DE CHANEL is not static. A groundbreaking spherical articulation technique, executed feather by feather, allows the base to remain firm while the tips quiver with movement, as if stirred by the gentlest breath. The diamonds and colored gemstones curve and sway, appearing almost weightless, like a whisper of light resting against the skin.
With PLUME DE CHANEL, Patrice Leguéreau’s legacy takes flight, an ephemeral beauty that lingers, an ode to delicacy and imagination. A precious mind, refined and radiant, now part of the wind.
