REWARD if FOUND is a brand that was created in 2020 by the Moroccan designer Mohamed Khattabi. It takes its name from a book about Kurt Cobain on which was written “reward if found”. The punk culture was known for its diverse array of ideologies, fashion, and other forms of expression. RIF, which is the acronym for the brand, is about disruption, displacement, visibility, identity, respect for the planet and decency for all of its inhabitants.
RIF uses fashion as a canvas and a platform for topics that concern him like climate, displacement, migration and queer issues. Khattabi buys dead stock, white like a blank canvas, on which he creates his own textile designs which often include short texts about the issues that concern him. RIF works with two associations: Displacement Solutions and Famille au grand coeur. Displacement Solutions (DS) is a non-profit organisation that works with climate-displaced people, as well as communities, governments and the United Nations, to find right-based land solutions to climate displacement. DS also works to empower displaced people and refugees to exercise their right to return to their original homes, lands and properties based on the right to restitution. The idea of displacement is a personal as well as global concern, many of Khattabi’s friends have had to leave their countries due to their identity, identification or forced out for political reasons.
Famille au grand cœur is an association based in Montpellier, created in 2021, whose main aim is to welcome, support and find host families for young people, adults, LGBTQ+ people, asylum seekers and refugees. It is the first association in France created by, for and with LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees. Judging by our current political situation I imagine they might soon be overwhelmed.
